A little about
who we are
Character Compass Consulting was founded by Alanna Fraser, who brings two decades of experience in the education sector, primarily within independent boarding schools. Alanna's diverse background includes roles as a teacher, coach, and pastoral leader, with extensive classroom expertise in PSHE, Critical Thinking, Religious Studies, and Philosophy.
Her leadership experience spans a wide variety of pastoral, academic and co-curricular roles, including:
- Student wellbeing and DEI lead
- Deputy DSL
- Head of year
- Assistant housemistress
- Departmental lead for Philosophy, Critical Thinking and EPQ
- Head of debating
Most recently, she has worked within the alternative provision sector, providing targeted coaching and mentoring support to students with SEND and SEMH at an online school. She has a deep understanding of the issues facing neurodivergent and other higher-need students and is also a trained mental health first aider.
In 2022/23, Alanna trained with Graydin as a coach specialising in education, completing an advanced qualification before subsequently training as a coaching skills facilitator, enabling her to deliver impactful and implementable coaching-led workshops to schools. An adept online educator, Alanna is skilled at delivering virtual webinars and workshops as well as in-person sessions.
Most of Character Compass Consulting’s work with schools is delivered by Alanna, although she has a network of expert associates to draw upon in order to deliver hybrid or bespoke training.
Our Philosophy

We are passionate about empowering young people with transformative competencies . These will help them to thrive in adult lives that will require them to navigate deep and widespread social and industrial change, most notably caused by the disruptive technology of the AI revolution.
Our work is framed around the OECD’s Future of Education and Skills Project 2030, which poses the following questions: “How can we prepare students for jobs that have not yet been created, to tackle societal challenges that we can’t yet imagine, and to use technologies that have not yet been invented? How can we equip them to thrive in an interconnected world where they need to understand and appreciate different perspectives and worldviews, interact respectfully with others, and take responsible action towards sustainability and collective well-being?” (OECD, 2019)
We believe that schools have a duty to prepare their pupils for adult life in a rapidly evolving world. At the heart of the Industry 5.0 ‘character compass’ is agency, alongside skills such as empathy, cultural competency, adaptability, resilience and oracy.
Partnership
We believe we work better together. Collaboration is key to building understanding, confidence and a willingness to learn.
Impact
Our goal is for participants to leave our sessions with confidence in their new skills, and feel ready, willing and able to implement them.
Inclusion
We lead by example to make each session a safe, inclusive space. It is important to us that all our resources are SEND-friendly.
Compassion
We want everyone we work with to feel included, supportive and safe. We make sure that all our resources are SEND-friendly and our facilitators have full training in SEND, DEI and SEMH.
